OERu

The OERu is a virtual collaboration of like-minded institutions committed to creating flexible pathways for OER learners to gain formal academic credit. The OERu aims to provide free learning to all students worldwide using OER learning materials with pathways to gain credible qualifications from recognised education institutions. It is rooted in the community service and outreach mission to develop a parallel learning universe to augment and add value to traditional delivery systems in post-secondary education.

WikiEducator inspires me to think of new ways of using technology for education

I am a Botanist & Plants are my 'Guiding Force'.
I think To Grow and keep Growing to give more to others is the Philosophy of a Tree.
WikiEducator is my place to impliment this :-)

I am Dr. Gita Mathur, Associate Professor of Botany at Gargi College, University of Delhi, India.

WikiEducator is not just a website, it is a means of sharing my rich experiences as a teacher with the global community of teachers and students. -- Getting them together through L4C workshops, encouraging interactions and developing Open Educational Resources. WikiEducator has given a new perspective to my mode of interactive teaching. Now I have a two-way joint/collaborative approach. I have started special sections related to Bryophytes (moss-like plants), Pteridophytes (fern-like plants) and also a glossary of technical terms in Botany on my user page. Read more ...

Learning4Content is the world's largest attempt to develop wiki skills for education. In return for free training, we encourage participants to become WikiEducators themselves by developing and donating one free content resource back to the community. We have trained thousands of teachers from more than 113 countries in basic wiki editing skills. Many L4C graduates have become facilitators themselves, sharing their knowledge and helping us scale OER development for the social good of education.

Connexions-WikiEducator-Mediawiki OER Remix Project

The Connexions-WikiEducator-Mediawiki OER Remix Project is generously supported by the William and Flora Hewlett to advance OER remix opportunities and collaboration among open content projects by building capability to:

  1. Export a Connexions page or content module into WikiEducator/Mediawiki installation for collaborative wiki editing.
  2. Import a Wikieducator/Mediawiki page or content collection into Connexions for enhanced work flow and hosting of static instances of wiki produced content.
  3. Enhance the pedagogical capability of both platforms by defining education elements (iDevices) as identifiable components of digital OERs which will facilitate manipulation of the presentation (how to teach) from the content (what to teach) in different reuse scenarios.

OER Course Collaboratory

The OER Course Collaboratory is an international collaboration among individuals and institutions to create, reuse, revise and remix OER course materials and resources on the field of open education. In short, OERs for courses on OER.

The OER Course Collaboratory is a resource sharing initiative without institutional barriers. Individual institutions retain their autonomy to teach, accredit and credentialise these OER courses within their existing qualifications. Organisations are encouraged to include electives on OER within their postgraduate programmes. This is an important pilot because it will demonstrate how high education institutions can diversify their curriculum in traditionally low enrolment courses without corresponding increases in the cost of provision. It is the educational equivalent of the co-opetition model, namely where organisations agree to collaborate so that they can compete better.

OER New Zealand

OER New Zealand (OERNZ) is a national OER initiative for New Zealand teachers to create, share, repurpose and reuse digital content in support of the national curriculum. The reusable and portable content project is sponsored by the NZ Ministry of Education under the Managed Learning Environment initiative and focuses on:

  1. Capability and community development;
  2. Software and tools development to improve the usability of the technology for newcomers to collaborative online authoring and content integration with the technology platforms of the Ministry and approved LMS vendors;
  3. Seeding OER content development for use in NZ schools.

All resources are developed openly under free content licenses so that they can be reused and reconfigured for other national OER projects in the school sector.

WikiEducator

WikiEducator is a global open source project dedicated to developing open content resources in support of all national curricula by 2015, in line with the UN's Millennium Development Goals. WikiEducator is a top 100K website with 10.5 million hits per month (October, 2009). It has 80,796 members in more than 110 countries. 72% of its users are teachers, lecturers or trainers working in the education sector.

WikiResearcher

WikiResearcher is a global open source workspace for researchers to openly collaborate for planning, seeking funding, conducting and publishing research findings the wiki way. We aim to explore and implement the potential of the peer collaboration model for formal academic research.

CollabOERate

CollabOERate, is a thought leader's and practitioner's petri dish where OER futures are cultured for the benefit of individual OER projects around the world. CollabOERate is the OER equivalent of research and development (R & D) for new "product" design in open content and open education. CollabOERate is successful when it succeeds in growing the OER ecosystem in a sustainable way.
