Theme: Microorgansims in the environment

Goals/Skills:

• basic culture skills (sterile technique)
• Where microbes live
• basic prok. cell structure?
• prok vs euk?

Lesson plan/activities:

• talk about saftey and health issues
• Swab appropriate places to see if microbes are present
• Transfer to sterile agar plates using proper techniques
• let cultures grow (room temp?)
• observe growth (talk about modes growth?) "math connection"
• explain what they are looking at (colonies, prok v. euk, and maybe basic cell structures)
