  2. Take a look at the words for "libre" recommended by the Free Software Foundation for describing libre software (and check out alternative terms). Correct the list below if you spot any discrepancies.
  3. Check out the Languages list in the left panel on the Wikipedia page on free software and check that the words chosen make sense.
  4. If you disagree with a proposed word for libre below, propose an appropriate word in the language of interest (under its heading below) which means the same as "libre" (free as in freedom).

Are these the same word: मुक्त and मुफ्त ?

मुक्त denotes openness and also liberation, freedom. This word is used for "Open" University. Whereas, मुफ्त, i think would mean "free" in the sense of getting something for free, at no cost. --Kalpana Gupte 05:10, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Many thanks :-). - Kim Tucker 14:13, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
I notice that FSF India sometimes uses the word "Swatantra Software". Google Translate translates this to स्वतंत्र - independent, and http://imtranslator.net back-translates it to शुल्क - free (of charge). Confusing. Safest is probably mukt as in "मुक्त सॉफ्टवेयर (mukt software)". But I would be interested in any comments on "Swatantra" --Kim Tucker (talk) 09:01, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
The web translator at gnu.org also suggests "mukt". --Kim Tucker (talk) 17:36, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

The terms of interest for comment (though for the libre emblem it seems clear that the correct word is मुक्त Mukta):

मुक्त Mukta (free as in freedom, libre), मुफ़्त mufta (free of charge, gratis), मुफ्त muphta (free of charge?), स्वतंत्र svatantra (independent). --Kim Tucker (talk) 16:02, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
