Patricia Schlicht

Patricia Helijet.jpg
I have been working with Dr. Wayne Mackintosh, the founder of WikiEducator since the get go of the initiative, in May of 2006. I have since then gradually increased my understanding, skills and involvement in Open Education and the use of and integration of open source software.

It has been a privilege to see how one country after another has made use of this technology to make a difference in their own environment.

WikiEducator has become the most exciting experience of my professional career. I am passionate about learning. I actively facilitate online workshops on WikiEducator as community voluneer in my spare time, in an attempt to build capacity for WikiEducator around the globe. I am interested in social networking, culture/anthropology, open and distance learning/eLearning, community and capacity building. I am a philanthropist.

Claire Buist

I am a teacher and team leader at a Year 0 - Year 6 primary school. I have enjoyed using wikispaces and recently blogs with the children that I work with. They have responded to the world of web 2 with a vengeance and see it as a meaningful way to share their writing, learning and points of view with the world. It is the discussions and the diverse audience that has really hooked them in! I am looking forward to using WE because of the pure collaborative nature of it and believe it can only enhance and deepen my teaching and learning experiences!
(Comment.gif: Collaboration is what WikiEducator is all about and we have been very luckily that our work has been embraced so widely. --Patricia Schlicht 17:10, 19 January 2010 (UTC))

From Charlotte Duren I am a communicator who knows close to knowing about wikispaces, but I want to learn. I guess we're learning how to edit a page before actually creating one? As you can see, I'm truly in the dark here! In addition to wanting to know about wikispaces from a professional standpoint, I think it would be an enriching social opportunity for some of the computer-geek type teenagers with autism that I work with.--Cduren 15:15, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Re: The opportunities are endless. Welcome and thanks. --Patricia Schlicht 17:10, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Simona Bor

My name is Simona and I am a college freshman majoring in Biochemistry. I'm getting involved with WikiEducator because I've just joined a non-profit translating organization that utilizes WikiEducator. I hope to learn more about the potential benefits and advantages of using WikiEducator while acquiring skills that will enable me to make lasting contributions to this organization and the organization I'm volunteering for. --Simona Bor 23:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Welcome again. You have definitely come to the right place. Warm wishes --Patricia Schlicht 23:37, 20 January 2010 (UTC))

From Verbena Wilburg I am Verbena, a lecturer in Spanish methodology at the Cryil Potter College of Education in Guyana. Last year I was introduced to the world of Web 2.0 technology and the concept of ITC through an online workshop sponsored by the OAS. I see this training programme as an opportunity to further my knowledge in this area through the use of collaborative technology - a feature of web 2.0.
(Comment.gif: Hi Verbena. Thanks for dropping in. You are actually looking at a number of WikiEducator living in Guyana. Great to have a new champion in our Wiki family coming from that region. Warm wishes, --Patricia Schlicht 23:22, 22 January 2010 (UTC))

When I have completed this exercise I expect to be more informed about using wikis and applying them in the classroom to enrich teaching-learning experiences, to recognize the important contributions made by OER to effective and efficient teaching and learning, to be better equipped to support colleagues as they seek to infuse technology in their teaching practice. --Kholekha 00:14, 20 January 2010 (UTC) (Comment.gif: Imagine how the children we work with will be able to share their learning, ask questions and collaborate with others around the world! --Claire Buist) (Comment.gif: You are joining the marjority of teachers on the Wiki who are using the Wiki in the classroom. feel free to connect, ask lots of questions. We are here to help. Warm wishes, --Patricia Schlicht 23:37, 20 January 2010 (UTC))

Nancy Groh

Hello all, I am Nancy I am an education consultant for "Hector's World Ltd which provides free resources to educators to help them promote the concept of digital citizenship with young students. I have many years experience as a classroom teacher and a professional development coordinator I am excited about the potential Web2 brings to classrooms and how technology is providing flexible learning opportunities. It certainly has for me. I am looking forward to exploring the use of WikiEducator in providing professional learning opportunities and professional discussion about digital citizenship. I am also interested in encouraging more research into the use of technology by young children.--Nancy Groh 11:09, 20 January 2010 (UTC) (Comment.gif: Hi Nancy. Marsha Guthrie

I am just testing this out to see if I can get it right! I already introduced myself for Day 1 but again, I am Marsha Guthrie and I am from the island of Jamaica. I currently live in the island of Barbados and teach part-time at the local community college. I also tutor part-time for an international NGO and so thought that this would be a good course to take (second time round!).Marsha Guthrie 22:29, 20 January 2010 (UTC) {{Note|Dear Marsha. Glad you came through here as well. It is a good exercise to connect directly with your fellow students, directly on the Wiki.Well done!Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 23:37, 20 January 2010 (UTC)))

Ana Pinto Ferreira

Hello!
My name is Ana Pinto-Ferreira, I'm 31 and I live in Porto, Portugal. I am an anesthesiologist, with no professional interest in WikiEducator. But, in my spare time, I do translation work for the United Nations Online Volunteering Website. Among others, I have worked with the Community Empowerment Website. At first, they used CatsCradle but, in June 2009, they started using WikiEducator. That's why I want to be a part of this workshop!
Best regards!

Alison Mead Richardson

Hello Wiki Neighbours!
I am Alison, working in skills development at the Commonwealth of Learning. I have recently moved to Canada after 13 years living and working in Africa. I have been working in distance education since the early 90s and try to keep up with all the new methodologies and technologies (and all the other ~ologies!)

I joined this workshop to give me focussed time on learning to work within a wiki - as part of my own professional development and to share with colleagues. I'm sure I'll learn a lot if only I can put in enough time!Alisonmead 23:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Thank you, Alison for taking the time to introduce yourself here on the wiki as well. I am sure you will find that skills development and WikiEducator go very well together. Warm wishes, --Patricia Schlicht 02:12, 24 January 2010 (UTC))
