Nellie Deutsch

Nellie-HeadSet-Smile.JPG
My name is Nellie (Muller) Deutsch. My formal educational background is varied but my informal studies are even more so. I have a BA in English literature and linguistics, an MA in education specializing in curriculum and technology, and am currently completing a doctoral program in educational leadership specializing in curriculum and instruction at the University of Phoenix online. I have been teaching English as a foreign language for over 30 years and integrating technology into the ESL/EFL classroom since the 1990s. I have been involved in international collaborative projects and WebQuests via Moodle for the past 5 years. My first website, Nellie's English Projects was an experiment that evolved from a WebQuest and started me off as a webmistress in the days of html before web 2.0 tools. I facilitate online (Blended and full) and face-to-face workshops on how to use Wikieducator as a collaborative tool to improve instruction and learning and conduct online workshops and conferences. I also moderate live online workshops for Electronic Village Online which is a project of TESOL's CALL Interest Section, storytelling and cultures, and integration of technology and web 2.0 tools into the classroom on WiZiQ.

I am passionate about learning and am currently completing my doctoral studies in educational leadership specializing in curriculum, and instruction online at the University of Phoenix and writing my dissertation. I am researching blended learning and instructor use of technology in higher education. In my spare time, I mentor educators on how to integrate web 2.0 tools for instruction and learning. I would like to see e-learning available and free worldwide.

I am interested in collaborative and engaged learning, social networking, philosophy, mindfulness meditation practice, the Alexander Technique, art, writing and poetry. I am looking forward to collaborating with other educators on the best ways to integrate technological tools in order to facilitate and improve instruction and learning.

Please feel free to contact me by email.

Gladys Gahona

ProfeChela1.jpg
My name is Gladys Gahona. I am a mexican private teacher on Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. In 1977, in order to economically support my studies, I started teaching math at a secondary school. In 1981 I graduated in chemical engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), in Mérida, Yucatán, México. During the last years of my university studies, I worked at UADY at the former Planning Department (today General Coordination of Planning and Institutional Assessment) where I had the opportunity to be assitant of several educational researchers, working in collaborating projects along with several mexican and foreign universities. In 2002 I postgraduated in Technology Management at UADY.

Although my professional formation is oriented to engineering, productivity, business and technology management, I've loved teaching since ever. My job (Asesor MFQ academy, in Cancun, Q.Roo, México) consists on tutoring and providing counseling to learners of secondary & early tertiary level, helping them on homework, or preparing them for examinations. There is a special group I love to work with, adult people. They are confident and enthusiastic learners, they always give the best of them.

The knowledge I have gained on teaching/tutoring comes from my personal experiences and self-studies. I'm also been a self learner in computing, web programing, ITC and web 2.0 platforms and tools. Since last November I have had the privilege to meet Nellie Deutsch who has become an inspiring mentor to me on improving my english language as well as moderating live online conferences, facilitating online courses, and integrating technology to education. Now I dedicate my professional life to my two passions: teaching and learning, particullary learning by doing and learning by "helping". =)

Please feel free to contact me by email.

Benjamin Stewart

Hello! My name is Benjamin Stewart and I´m an EFL teacher educator and foreign language coordinator at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in Mexico. I have a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting, a master’s degree in education specializing in curriculum and instruction technology, and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in instructional and curriculum leadership at Northcentral University. My research interests lie in the application of social network principles as they pertain specifically to English language learning.

I am currently working on a WE project (slated for Jan. 2010) that will allow EFL/ESL educators and learners to collaborate and interact worldwide. I believe that language learning requires both the need to build understandings and big ideas as well as a skill set that allows the learner to effectively communicate and interact with others.

As your junior facilitator, I look forward to assisting you in this workshop as you gain new skills that will allow you to collaborate with others who share similar interests. Enjoy the learning process and rest assured that we (as your facilitators) as well as others in the WE community are eager to provide the guidance you need to meet your individual objectives.

Feel free to send me an email should you wish to contact me directly.

Rima Al Eryani

My name is Rima. I graduated in 1996 from Jordan University for Women (Petra University) in Computer Science. After I graduated I worked in the International Bank of Yemen as a computer database developer. In 2001 I worked as a computer teacher in "The English School" for almost three years. In 2004 I had to reduce my working hours because my children needed me so I worked as a volunteer computer teacher for an orphans Institute. In 2007 I worked on a private project for my father who has a large library of more than 2000 books. I organized the books and developed a library database for him, at the same time I studied Oracle database in the Niit institute Sana'a.

Now I live in Saudi Arabia with my husband. We've been in Saudi Arabia for one year. I don't work so I am improving my English language skills by taking online classes and I registered to study for a PhD next September.

Kevin Burden

Hi! I'm Kevin Burden from Bristol, England. I'm a self-employed media development consultant. I work with people within the media, helping them to develop their craft (writing, editing, production, ethics, editorial decision-making) and management skills; and with academics, non-profit organisations and government bodies to help them work more effectively with the media. The greatest part of my work has been in countries undergoing rapid transition, including eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, south Asia, China and Africa.

For several years I worked at the BBC, where I co-founded an online learning platform and content that was used to train journalists and other media professionals in 20 or more ocuntries worldwide. I now have my own learning management system, but in all honesty I think the advantages of creative commons and open source platforms are so great, especially in the developing world, that I'd like to learn how to take part myself.

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you.

Olubodun Olufemi

My names are, Olubodun Olufemi Jeremiah. I am an instructor in the dental school of the University of Lagos Nigeria. My interest in the use of computer was first by the brief introduction by my brother on how to browse the Internet and ever since I have been very keen on developing my interest further. This has taken me to different levels of training and knowledge acuisition. I completed a postgraduate course in online tutoring and another one in online course devlopment with Agder University College Norway. I have also developed further competences in the use of computer for teaching and learning in different online workshops and courses such as those conducted by cpsquare.org where I got to know Nellie. I have also further developed skills in the use of web 2.0 and other emerging technologies. This keen interest in the use of computer in various ways led me into volunteering. I am a facilitator in the discussion for rebuilding of a community in Sierra Leone after very devastating ten (10) years old war in that country. I know a little about wiki from Nabuur.com website where we discuss about the village in Sierra Leone and some other online workshops that I attended in the past. I want to know more about wiki and with the calibre of people and profile I read above I think it is not a waste of time to participate in this workshop and I look seriously to making the best of this opportunity. I shall appreciate any opportunity to learn and work in other to put the knowledge from this course and other courses I did in the past to use. So kindly send me a mail on any openning emailshould you find one.

Joyce McKnight

Greetings. I'm Joyce McKnight and I am professor at Empire State College of the State University of New York--SUNY. I am an adult educator and am particularly interested in community education/popular education/participatory research. My community education experience is fairly extensive but is totally in poor rural and urban areas in the US. I am hoping to be able to share my research and thinking with others. This seems like a great community...I especially like the saying "Don't worry we will help you" because even though I work in a totally online environment, the details of technology make me nervous. I hope to keep practicing the different techniques I learn here and that I can share some of the materials I have created for my own courses with others who are interested in popular education.

I have a BS in Translation but I love technology and teaching so much that I have dedicated my time to these two passionate topics. I am looking forward to learning about implementing wikis, using Web 2.0 services for educational purpose. And I am also very interested in connecting with teacher for around the world to share our experiences! Thanks for the invitation!!! Nedal Shatat

name is Nedal Shatat. I was born in a Jordanian city near Amman called Madaba. I am a maths teacher. My school is called Emad Al-Dean Zenky High School for boys located in Madaba. I graduated from University of Baghdad in 1992 maths department and in 1993 I began my teaching career as a maths teacher in a public high school which belongs to Jordanian Ministry of Education. It seems to others an easy career but I realized from the first day how much its difficult one so I began developing my professional tools to make teaching less difficult and enjoyable for me as well as my students.

Greetings from 28 miles north of Chicago in Illinois on Lake Michigan. Sorry I'm so late in joining all of you. I am an adult educator. I have been teaching adults technology in one way or another throughout my adult life. I have worked in the corporate world, a teaching hospital/medical school, and have been self-emploed. I now teach technology classes at a community college and I help teachers integrate technology into their curriculum. One of these days I just might finish writing my dissertation but I seem to always find other things to do that are much more fun, like this course! :-) I am looking forward to getting to know you and work with all of you here on WikiEducator.

Hello from a few miles north east of Bloomington, Indiana near the Indiana University campus. I am the Technology Assistant for L213 Literary Masterpieces and soon L214: a Shakespeare lecture class we are converting to an online class this summer. I have a background in humanities and music and am completing a degree in Computer and Information Technology at IUPUI. I hold two certificate degrees: one in Information Technology and one in E-commerce Development. This summer we have introduced the wiki tool into our L213 class as part of the curriculum and I have partnered with the Instructor to design and set up the content for the students using WetPaint as our wiki tool.
