Overview

You will need to do some research about the advertising of hotel packages and find information to develop a booklet for reference, and use this to critique hotel packages.  This part of the assessment will provide material to help you to create a hotel package and present it to the class.

Objectives

Explore the range of packages that accommodation establishments offer

Activity

Create a suitable package for your chosen hotel

Task

1. Take some time to research different hotel packages. Hotels market their packages using different mediums, such as the internet, radio, television, newspaper, magazines.

Find one package example from each of these mediums;

a. The Internet, Radio or television, a magazine and a newspaper. Reference where your examples are from and word process your findings.

Explain;

b. The hotel and Country the package is from

c.Type of customer they are trying to attract e.g. Couples, Families, Sports fans etc.

2. You will often find hotels advertise these packages because of a special event, close to the school holidays, in the low or shoulder season. They may choose to promote their hotel for a "weekend" or a "luxury break" or for "relaxation".

a. Word process two examples of this with referencing, giving location, what the package involves and why it has been created.

3. Once you have completed your own research, choose a specific event/time of the year (for example - Valentines Day) and create your 'own package'. We will be creating a virtual hotel in D105. Think about how you would attract customers here.

a. When would be your quiet or busy times?

b. What would be included in the package?

c. Who would be your target market?

d. Is the package only valid for a certain period of time or days of the week?

e. Is there any other product linked to the package eg. spa, tour or travel, a meal?

f. How did you work out the price of this package?

4. You will be asked to present the last section (3) in class on Thursday 6th August, in full uniform, be prepared to sell your package to the audience!
