Here and there homework

Exercise A:

Re-write each sentence so that "here" or "there" does not come first in the sentence (you might have to leave out the here or there in the re-write so that the sentence doesn't sound too "funny".) Then find the subject:

  1. There is a serious problem in that hospital.
  2. Here is your weekly allowance.
  3. Here is a penny for your thoughts.
  4. There were no responses to my newspaper ad.
  5. There is a reason why he is so angry.

Exercise B: Find the subject in each of the following sentences:

  1. Mark wants a bicycle for his birthday.
  2. Here are four new books.
  3. Four babies were playing in the playpen.
  4. Susan runs around the track every day.
  5. In the forest lived a wicked old witch.
  6. You forgot to send in your return address.
  7. There are too many mistakes in this essay.
  8. My family is very important to me.
  9. He waited for his three sisters and their boyfriends.
  10. All of my students are here today.
  11. Good things come in small packages.
  12. Besides dancing, Martin likes swimming and hiking.
