Welcome to Module Twelve, the final module of the course! This module is set up differently from previous modules. In this module, select two global issues that are of particular interest to you from the list below. Complete all activities for the issues you select.

Ebola virus

To complete this module you will need to select two of the Global Issues below, and complete the activities for each:

  • Pandemics.
The recent outbreak of Ebola in West Africa killed more than 10,000 people, and provoked fear of a global Ebola pandemic. But how likely is a global pandemic, and to which pathogens are we most vulnerable?
  • Genetically Modified Food.
The potential risks and benefits of genetically modified food have caused passionate debate around the world in recent decades. But what does the evidence suggest?
  • Ozone Layer Depletion.
The issue of ozone layer depletion is widely regarded as a global issue that the international community has successfully addressed. Are there lessons we can learn from this success and apply to other global issues?
  • Gender Equality.
Women in the developed and developing worlds continue to experience discrimination and disadvantage in a multitude of ways. How can we build more equitable societies?
  • Human Trafficking and Slavery.
Chattel slavery is illegal, yet human trafficking, forced labour and modern slavery are major global issues.
  • Terrorism.
Terrorism continues to dominate headlines around the world. But who chooses to become a terrorist, and why? And does terrorism actually work?
