Overview

In southern Africa there have been significant advancements with FLOSS.

In South Africa a FLOSS policy document was approved in February 2007 and government information systems are in the process of being migrated where appropriate.

In education there have been several initiatives deploying FLOSS in schools including tuXlabs and the work of NetDay in South Africa, and SchoolNet Namibia.

So, the benefits of FLOSS have been recognised and the need for capacity building to grow the industry and realise the benefits of FLOSS is great.
