Daysha Geleta Chelsea Mansfield edit   News ESL-WOW Excelsior College has launched the Excelsior College English as a Second Language Writing Online Workshop (ESL-WOW) – a free, publicly available resource for non-native English speakers struggling with college-level writing. The project, funded with a $581,600 grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), is housed within the Excelsior College Online Writing Lab (OWL). ESL-WOW is intended to guide English learners along each stage of the pre-writing, while-writing, and post-writing process through interconnected and interactive modules. The workshop was built in accordance with promising new strategies in adult second- language writing which include assessing learners’ needs and goals, acknowledging their prior writing experiences, incorporating content relevant to their roles as parents, workers and life-long learners and evaluating their performance on an ongoing basis.

edit   Center for Educational Measurement News UExcel Exams Excelsior College has implemented a new registration process for the eight UExcel® exams in Calculus, Introduction to Psychology, Political Science, Intro to Sociology, Statistics, College Writing, Spanish Language, and Physics. Registration for UExcel Exams is through the Excelsior College website at Register for Your Exam, or through your MyExcelsior account. Scheduling of your exam session will still take place through Pearson VUE at http://www.pearsonvue.com/uexcel/. In addition, Excelsior College Examinations® (ECEs) will be gradually changing in name to UExcel (The exception is the required nursing theory exams for our associate and bachelor degree in nursing programs, which will keep the ECE name). Students who use appropriate resources as study material, including those provided by OERu member institutions and other recognized open courseware providers, find that UExcel exams and ECEs are a highly affordable means for the independent learner to demonstrate academic proficiency in over 50 subjects.
