Daisy Salifu


Personal Information

Daisy Salifu is a visiting Biometry Lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology from the University of Malawi, Bunda College of Agriculture.

Educational Background

Daisy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Malawi, Post-graduate Diploma in Statistics and Master of Science degree in Biometry from the University of Reading, UK.

Professional Experience

Daisy has worked as Research Associate (Plant Breeding) with ICRISAT Groundnut Project – Malawi from 1994 to 1995. She played a major role in the planning, design and implementation of Preliminary, Advanced and Regional groundnut trials for the project, Data analysis of trials conducted in Malawi and other SADC countries and preparation of Project’s annual reports.

Daisy has worked in the University sector; University of Malawi and Jomo Kenyatta University since then; 1996 to date. Daisy teaches statistics and biometry courses required by post-graduate and under-graduate students in various fields; food science, agricultural engineering, animal science, crop science, rural development, agriculture economics, human nutrition. Daisy is also highly involved in providing statistical advice to students and scientists in their research investigation. In addition, she is a certified GenStat trainer.

Research Interests

Her research interest is in agricultural research methods, which has grown out of experience as advisory biometrician/statistician and from the teaching of statistics courses to agriculture and biology students in the university. Her main career objective is to support and guide research activities in the strife to increasing food and nutritional security and alleviating poverty in Africa.

Daisy is currently pursuing a PhD in Applied Statistics at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture in the area of HIV and AIDS epidemic modeling.
