Foods that invertebrates would eat are:

  • seaweed (Is eaten by shellfish, kina, paua, crayfish and seaslugs)
  • plankton (Is eaten by krill, sponges and filter feeders such as scallops, pipis and cockles)
  • shrimp (Is eaten by octopi and squid)
  • algae (Is eaten by paua, crayfish, starfish, seaurchins and kina)

Invertebrates do not eat pizza, cookies, ice-cream or apples. These foods do not occur in their habitat anyway. Although pet hermit crabs are known to eat apples fed to them, quite happily!!

Do you eat the same foods that invertebrates eat?
