Successful Farmer belonging to L3 Project

Farmers from Kaluthavalai village made an exposure visit to Magampura Institute of Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences, Weligata through L3 Project of Eastern University along with former Project Coordinator Prof. V. Arulnandhy. They learnt the process involved in tissue culture technique under the guidance of Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama, Director, Magampura Institute of Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences. They also made visits to Farmers’ fields in Weligata and acquainted with the management of the cultivation of tissue culture bananas. Afterwards, farmers eagerly brought some tissue culture banana plantlets and cultivated in their field. The learning materials on the management of tissue culture banana were developed by the project and distributed to the farmers. The coordinator and project members made frequent visits to the Kaluthavalai village and provided required guidance to the growers. This photograph shows a tissue cultured banana with a bunch ready for harvesting along with the cultivated farmer and it reveals the success of this project. Presently Dr. (Mrs). T. H. Seran functions as the Coordinator of this Project.
